King Wilkie
King Wilkie is a young bluegrass sextet with lead vocals shared by Reid Burgess (mandolin) and John McDonald (guitar). Ted Pitney provides lead guitar and harmony vocals, and Abe Spear (banjo), Nick Reeb (fiddle) and Drew Breakey (upright bass) round out the band.
The band's name is taken from Bill Monroe's favorite steed.
King Wilkie cut a live independent album as a quintet in 2003 and released Broke in 2004. They were named as Bluegrass Emerging Artist of the year, but their sound has since extended out beyond the traditional, with their Americana songwriting to the fore in their 2007 release Low Country Suite.
