Kathy Mattea
Kathy Mattea has managed to be a commercially successful artist, while at the same time bringing elements of folk, bluegrass, gospel to her music.
Mattea's self-titled debut was released in 1984, but it was her 1986 Walk the Way the Wind Blows that proved to be her breakthrough both critically and commercially. The follow-up, Untasted Honey, featured two number one hits in Goin' Gone and Eighteen Wheels and a Dozen Roses.
Becoming more interested in the links between country music and traditional Scottish folk, Mattea's music became more eclectic, typified by Time Passes By which featured Emmylou Harris and Dougie MacLean. Since that time she has continued to explore Celtic music, and after a hiatus of several years she has released several albums in the new millennium, most recently her bluegrass offering Coal in 2008.
