Julie Miller
Julie Miller released her debut album Blue Pony 1997, and caused the sort of stir that only a special few artists can. The accolades for the singer-songwriter were many, with her vocal style that mixes little-girl innocence and womanly worldliness being the biggest attention-grabber. Julie Miller was heavily influenced by Jerry Jeff Walker, Emmylou Harris and Gram Parsons, and made her professional singing debut at the age of sixteen, shortly before joining future husband Buddy Miller in his band. The two spent time in New York and Los Angeles before settling in Nashville in 1993. While Julie lends her singing to Buddy's albums, Buddy returns the compliment by playing on and co-producing Julie's material. Buddy Miller's 1995 Your Love And Other Lies, for which Julie co-wrote several songs and sang on three helped bring her songwriting to the attention of Emmylou Harris, who recorded All My Tears. Early in 1999, Julie Miller began recording what was to become her sophomore album Broken Things. Buddy Miller co-produced and played and sang on it. The most poignant song on the album is undoubtedley the title track which was written in 1993, but came to the public's attention when Juliet Turner sang Broken Things at the memorial service to the victims of the 1998 Omagh bombing in Northern Ireland. Along with musical cohorts Patty Griffin and Emmylou Harris, Julie Miller is responsible for some of the most stunning and evocative songs around. And in common with Griffin and Harris, Jule Miller posesses a beautiful and expressive voice to convey the emotion of her renowned songwriting.
