Johnny Paycheck
Johnny Paycheck's recordings in the sixties are rightfully acclaimed as some of the most influential of the genre. As George Jones' tenor singer, Paycheck has been credited with the development of Jones' unique vocal phrasing.
With the popularity of Willie Nelson and Waylon Jennings in the mid 70's, Paycheck changed his image to that of outlaw, where he was to have his greatest successes.
A member of the Grand Ole Opry, Paycheck is best remembered for his 1977 hit single, Take This Job and Shove It (written by David Allan Coe), which sold over 2 million copies and inspired a motion picture of the same name.
