A U.S. Army surgeon, guitarist, and singer, John Starling played with The Seldom Scene progressive bluegrass band from 1971 until 1977. After playing with various other groups in the 80s, he rejoined Seldom Scene in the early '90s.
Carolina Star is the latest incarnation of Seldom Scene. John Starling (guitar, vocals), Mike Auldridge (dobro, vocals) and Tom Gray (bass vocals) influenced a generation of bluegrass musicians such as Ricky Skaggs, and even Emmylou Harris in the progressive bluegrass scene between 1971 and 1977. ~ All Music Guide
