Hot Rize is a bluegrass band that rose to prominence in the early 1980s, consisting of Tim O'Brien on mandolin and fiddle, Pete Wernick on banjo, Nick Forster on electric bass. It also had Charles Sawtelle on guitar until his 1999 death. Three years later, Bryan Sutton joined the band to play the guitar.
One notable element of their live show is to all swap instruments and dress up as an imaginary Western swing band called Red Knuckles and the Trailblazers.
