Honoring the Fathers of Bluegrass: Tribute to 1946 & 1947 is Ricky Skaggs' 2008 tribute to The Bluegrass Boys: Bill Monroe, Lester Flatt and Earl Scruggs.

With his band Kentucky Thunder, Skaggs takes on many of the recordings made by Monroe & Co. for the Columbia label. Setting the standard in those days for todays' bluegrass, it takes a performer of Skaggs' unique standing and abilities to be able to revisit classic picking, but needless to say he manages it with some aplomb.

Full marks to Skaggs for his continued determination to keep bluegrass music alive, and firmly in the public eye.
