Heartbreaker's Hall Of Fame
Sunny Sweeney represents the next generation of Texas spitfire honky-tonkers. Her album Heartbreaker's Hall Of Fame is full of country music that sounds like it is being played and sang by a long-time veteran of the Texas dance halls. But Sunny Sweeney's youthfullness is the surprise package on the album.
The quality of musicianship is outstanding, and her songs have an air of mischief and sadness that all the great country music manages to blend together. As well as her own personal songs, such as the wry title track, Sunny taps into other songwriters' work, including Jim Lauderdale, Iris Dement, Keith Sykes and Tim Carroll. Jim Lauderdale also crops up on a duet with Sunny on Lavender Blue.
Traditionalists will be delighted that a new, young star is avoiding the familiar pop-country route, and staying true to the roots of country music.
