Hayes Carll
Hayes Carll has the voice of someone who has spent too many nights on the road, smoking and drinking his way down the highways of life for more years than he can remember. For such a young singer-songwriter Texas' own Hayes Carll certainly gives the impression of someone who could use a bed and some rest. But look beyond the shambolic, ragged appearance and you'll find an astute, laid-back and seriously talented individual, who has been mentioned on more than one occasion in the same breath as the late great Townes Van Zandt. Hayes Carll's debut album Flowers and Liquor immediately brought him to the attention of the Texas public who of course take to their hearts bluesy, country/folk songwriters. Carll's sharp observations in his songwriting and the familiar personalities he describes would stand up tall alongside another great writer about people, John Prine. Hayes Carll's follow-up album Little Rock, released in 2005 became the first self-released album to top the Americana charts, and featured a song co-written with Guy Clark. The easy-going Texan, who has an affinity with Arkansas where he spent much of his youth, is leading from the front in the new, hungry pack of singer-songwriters. Hayes Carll is the real deal, and he has signed with a major label in 2006. More information about Hayes Carll can be found at: www.hayescarll.com
