Gretchen Peters' songs have already etched her name amongst the great contemporary writers, and as other significant writers have tried to take the performance route and been unsuccessful, on the surface Peters is being courageous with her own releases. However, on even a cursory listen to this album Peters' youthful voice dances across the scenarios and exotic characters she describes, and the soulful, jazz-tinged music provides the perfect backdrop. Cuts such as Like Water Into Wine and Eddie's First Wife are eloquent examples.
