Gene Clark with the Gosdin Brothers
Gene Clark with the Gosdin Brothers is the debut solo album of Gene Clark. It was his first effort after his departure from seminal folk-rock group the Byrds in 1966.
Though the album was a critical success and established Clark as a talented singer-songwriter, it was released simultaneously with the Byrds' album Younger Than Yesterday and it ended up a commercial failure. Clark's backing musicians on the album include former bandmates Chris Hillman and Michael Clarke, future Byrd Clarence White, Clark's frequent collaborator Doug Dillard, and folk/country vocal duo the Gosdin Brothers.
The 2007 reissue on Sundazed restored the original album mix and track order, and uncovered a number of alternate takes from the album sessions (though no new songs were discovered), finally providing fans with the complete picture following a number of reissues down the years with various tracks not included.
