Emerson Drive
Led by the vocals of Brad Mates, Canadian-bred Emerson Drive's first two albums received high-powered accolades from the country music community, including Billboard's Top Country Artist of the Year and Group of the Year for two consecutive years from the Canadian Country Music Association.
Emerson Drive are one of the few country bands who have the distinction of playing their own instruments on all of their albums, but their production by Richard Marx led to complaints from traditionalists that they were too 'pop'.
Their 2006 release Countrified has redressed the balance, with a rootsier sound focussing on the instrumental skills of Dale Wallace and David Pichette.
