Eleven Stories
Although branded Americana, Bruce Robison is pure unadulterated country in the time-honoured tradition of guys like Don Williams, Gene Watson and Ed Bruce. His lyrical themes and uncluttered arrangements on Eleven Stories evoke the sounds of yesteryear and yet are firmly rooted in today.
He is joined by his wife Kelly Willis on More and More, a wonderful slice of traditional country, closer to those wonderful Gram and Emmylou duets than I've heard in years. There's even a great rendition of The Grateful Dead's Tennessee Jed that fits in here as if Robison has written it himself.
An impressive self-produced record by the cult texas songwriter with the Midas touch that deserves to gain a wider audience. ~ Alan Cackett, Maverick (UK)
