Tracy Byrd - Different Things

Different Things is the first release from Tracy Byrd since leaving the relative comfort of a major record label and moving to the independent Blind Mule records.

No longer feeling constrained by the big-budget powerbrokers, Byrd has returned to his traditional country roots and delivered a fine album, perhaps in the vein of other traditionalists like Clint Black or Randy Travis. Any thoughts of blandness are blown away with the rockier tracks, coming over with more than a hint of Outlaw Country ... Waylon Jennings comes to mind.

Different Things blends ballads with bawdiness - Tracy Byrd wears his honky-tonk roots on his sleeve, but manages to pull off gentle ballads with aplomb. Check out Saltwater Cowboy as a great example.

The more guys like Tracy Byrd pull away from the clutches of Music City the better it will be for the development of great country music.
