David Allan Coe
David Allan Coe is perhaps not one of the 'Outlaw Country' superstars, but DAC is certainly one of the more outspoken and outlandish stars of country, living up to the 'Outlaw' tag more than some of his higher profile peers.
Coe achieved his greatest popularity in the 1970s and 1980s. As a songwriter, his best-known compositions are Would You Lay with Me (in a Field of Stone), originally recorded by Tanya Tucker, and Take this Job and Shove It. which was to become a Number One hit for Johnny Paycheck, and was also turned into a hit movie.
Before moving to Nashville, DAC had spent many years in prison and before that, reform school. His songwriting helped put Coe back on the rails and he has written and performed over 280 original songs throughout his long career.
Just for good measure, Coe sang lead vocals for Rebel Meets Rebel, a country-metal band consisting of Coe and Dimebag Darrell, Vinnie Paul, and Rex Brown from Pantera.
