Creedence Clearwater Revival
Creedence Clearwater Revival from the mid sixties onwards became the definitive southern swamp-blues rock band. Fronted by gravel-voiced John Fogerty, they produced a string of classic hit singles, and a number of fine albums.
Although coming from the Bay Area of California, it was the Louisiana Blues that influenced CCR, and their album titles like Born On The Bayou and Mardi Gras reaffirmed their southern connections. Proud Mary reached Number 2 on the Billboard chart in 1969, and became one of their most famous songs, with some 100 cover versions subsequently being recorded.
Tensions in CCR began to grow, with Creedence Clearwater Revival eventually disbanding in 1972. John Fogerty continued to record and tour, and the legacy of CCR still lives on today.
