Cimarron Manifesto
Jimmy LaFave is widely regarded as one of America's greatest songwriters, and his first releases in two years, 2007's Cimarron Manifesto, continues LaFave's homage to the traditions of Woodie Guthrie.
As well as utilising the talents of his tried and trusted band, the fine vocal qualities of Carrie Rodriguez, Ruthie Foster and Kacy Crowley are added into the mix on harmony duties.
The result is country and Americana, painting pictures of the land surrounding the Cimarron River, and of America's changing cultural landscape. Jimmy LaFave throws in one or two appropriate cover versions, including the Joe South classic Walk A Mile In My Shoes, reinvented to become LaFave through and through.
A gem of a talent, Jimmy LaFave is very much a cult icon. He was famously described as 'A pint of Guinness in a bar full of Miller Lites'.
