Loretta Lynn - Chronicles [3xCD Box Set]

Chronicles is a three-CD box set containing two secular best-ofs and one compilation of religious material from the legendary and remarkable talent of Loretta Lynn.

While the two 20th Century Masters sets don't pretend to be definitive collections, the inclusions are hard to argue with, whether it's one of Loretta Lynn's signature songs like Coal Miner's Daughter or One's on the Way, her stellar duets with Conway Twitty, like Lead Me On and Louisiana Woman, Mississippi Man, or interestingly chosen album material, like the ravishing version of She's Got You from a 1977 Patsy Cline tribute.

The Gospel Spirit collects cuts from three of her gospel albums for Decca recorded in the late 1960s, all produced by the Nashville hitmaker Owen Bradley. The songs range from the familiar Peace in the Valley to the ominous, minor-key Gethsemane, but Lynn's vibrant, plaintive voice sounds equally at home on all of them.
