Buffalo Mansions
Strong vocal harmonies, stirring guitar work and lavish pedal steel give Southpaw from the Highlands of Scotland a country rock style reminiscent of the Flying Burrito Brothers or Poco on their debut album Buffalo Mansions.
Songwriter Gavin Munro is a prolific writer, and his intelligent lyrics are a particular strongpoint, so there are no fillers on the generous 15 tracks in this collection. Southpaw play country with a verve and feel that can be absent from more lauded acts from across the Atlantic. There is twang and honky-tonk aplenty on Buffalo Mansions, but the more sensitive acoustic numbers are the real standouts.
