Joan Baez - Bowery Songs

Recorded at the Bowery Ballroom in New York in 2004 Bowery Songs is a live album from the evergreen Joan Baez.

As well as a solid selection of older material and tracks from her latest studio album Dark Chords on a Big Guitar, fans will appreciate the inclusion on unrecorded songs that are regulars in Baez' stage set. As an interpretive singer Baez has no competition, and her reading of Steve Earle's Jerusalem deserves particular mention.

Time has had no bearing on her look nor on her outlook, and the frustration and pain is still evident as she takes on Christmas in Washington, another Steve Earle classic protest song. Perhaps it is her deep historical affinity with the names of Guthrie, King and Malcolm X that gives this an even more poignant feel than Earle's version.

Still fighting the good fight, and producing the goods after all these years. Bowery Songs is a CD for all occasions.
