Bill Monroe, the father of bluegrass, forged this new musical style out of mountain string music in the forties, but the musical legacy has stretched far beyond the confines of the genre itself. Ricky Skaggs, one of the leading lights today in keeping traditional music alive and in the public eye has gathered together a bunch of friends for Big Mon, and reinterpreted some of Monroe's best known songs.

Rockabilly, blues and gospel as well as a healthy dose of true bluegrass is present on this elcectic collection which ably demonstrates just what a vital part Monroe played in shaping the music of today.
