Abigail Washburn
Abigail Washburn had never thought of having a career in music, so you can imagine her surprise that when on a summer program in China, she found herself playing banjo and singing old time Appalachian mountain music in a Beijing bar.
Upon her return to the States Abigail Washburn started on a journey of discovery, exploring American culture and the traditional music that stems from the early settlers.
This began her interest in acoustic old time music, but she also had a passion for Chinese culture and was inspired to write songs, sung in Chinese, one of which is to be found on her debut album Song Of The Travelling Daughter.
Apart from solo work, Abigail Washburn is a member of old time music exponents Uncle Earl and also finds time for another side project with Bela Fleck, Casey Driessen and Ben Sollee called the Sparrow Quartet. If old time music is your preferred taste, then look no further than Abigail Washburn. ~ James Soars
