The Ernest Tubb Shows Vol.1 from Bear Family provides a priceless look at the golden age of country music on TV. Four full-colour episodes, all taken from the original video masters, features pre-outlaw Willie Nelson, outstanding instrumentals from the Texas Troubadours featuring the great Leon Rhodes on lead guitar and great solo performances from Jack Greene and Cal Smith, backed by the Texas Troubadours.
Taking to the air in 1965, The Ernest Tubb Show was a weekly television showcase for one of the true giants of country music. Shot in Nashville on video and using minimal sets, the emphasis was on the music, rather than flashy production.
In addition to featuring Ernest Tubb, still at the top of his form, the first year was a document of the 'Great Band' years of the Texas Troubadours - with the stellar line-up of Buddy Charleton, Jack Drake, Jack Greene, Leon Rhodes and Cal Smith.
The regular backing cast included both veteran performers and fresh faces including Willie Nelson (near the start of his career), Wade Ray, the Johnson Sisters, Bun Wilson, Lois Johnson and others. This series is a chance to recapture the days when the Texas Troubadour was a weekly visitor to television sets across America!
